“Fall of Ruin and Wrath- Nata dalle stelle” di Jennifer Armentrout è un romanzo del genere romantasy scritto dall’autrice e pubblicato nel 2023 in Italia dalla casa editrice Harper Collins. Ambientato in un mondo popolato sia da umani che da creature immortali, gli Hyhborn, il libro è il primo di una nuova serie.
Calista è una mortale nata con la singolare abilità di “intuire” il futuro toccando le persone; lavora per il Barone di Archwood, che la ospita tra ogni agio in cambio dei suoi servigi. Un giorno salva un Hyhborn catturato e torturato da alcuni umani, che si rivela essere il Principe Thorne, con cui instaura un rapporto caratterizzato da grande attrazione ma anche da paura per il suo grande potere e i suoi disegni politici.
Ammetto di aver davvero faticato ad arrivare agli ultimi capitoli di questo romanzo. L’ambientazione del romanzo risulta un po’ confusa. A volte manca una descrizione dettagliata del mondo in cui si svolge la storia, lasciando il lettore a cercare di capire meglio l’ambientazione, che risulta un generico mondo fantasy non dissimile dalle altre saghe dell’autrice, con mortali sul gradino più basso della catena alimentare, e creature simili a dei che li comandano.
Inoltre, ho trovato il ritmo del libro estremamente lento, con i protagonisti che sembrano non fare altro che lavarsi nella vasca, toccarsi l’un l’altro o essere toccati in modo inappropriato. Questa ripetitività può risultare noiosa, in quanto non succede praticamente nulla a livello di trama. Alcuni lettori potranno apprezzare la “tensione” romantica/sessuale tra i due protagonisti, però sinceramente una volta che hai capito che i due si piacciono parecchio non è che le successive reiterazioni di questo concetto aggiungano molto.
Nonostante questi difetti, il romanzo si riscatta verso la sua conclusione. Negli ultimi tre capitoli, l’azione si intensifica notevolmente, le tensioni raggiungono il loro apice e vengono svelati segreti cruciali. Il libro termina con un cliffhanger mozzafiato che lascia il lettore desideroso di scoprire cosa accadrà successivamente. È davvero un peccato che l’abbia tirata così per le lunghe… non poteva essere tutto così? Questo finale sorprendente mi ha lasciata con la voglia di sapere cosa succederà nel prossimo libro, nonostante non abbia granché apprezzato gran parte della lettura.
In conclusione, “Fall of Ruin and Wrath” è raccomandato agli amanti del romantasy che apprezzano scene di intimità nei bagni e che hanno la pazienza di arrivare alla fine del libro, in attesa di scoprire come la storia si svilupperà nei prossimi capitoli.

Calista is a Hyhborn mortal with the unique ability to ‘sense’ the future by touching people; she works for the Baron of Archwood, who harbours her amidst all the ease in return for her services. One day she rescues a Hyhborn captured and tortured by some humans, who turns out to be Prince Thorne, with whom she establishes a relationship characterised by great attraction but also fear for his great power and political designs.
I admit that I really struggled to get to the last chapters of this novel. The setting of the novel is a bit confusing. At times, there is a lack of detailed description of the world in which the story takes place, leaving the reader trying to better understand the setting, which turns out to be a generic fantasy world not unlike the author’s other sagas, with mortals on the lowest rung of the food chain, and god-like creatures ruling them.
Moreover, I found the pace of the book extremely slow, with the protagonists seemingly doing nothing more than washing each other in the tub, touching or being touched inappropriately. This repetitiveness can be boring, as practically nothing happens at the plot level. Some readers may appreciate the romantic/sexual ‘tension’ between the two protagonists, but honestly, once you’ve realised that the two like each other a lot, it’s not like the subsequent reiterations of this concept add much.
Despite these flaws, the novel redeems itself towards its conclusion. In the last three chapters, the action intensifies considerably, tensions reach their peak and crucial secrets are revealed. The book ends with a breathtaking cliffhanger that leaves the reader eager to find out what will happen next. It’s really a shame that she dragged it out so long – couldn’t it have all been like this? This surprising ending left me wanting to know what will happen in the next book, despite the fact that I didn’t enjoy much of the reading.
In conclusion, ‘Fall of Ruin and Wrath’ is recommended for lovers of romance who appreciate intimate scenes in bathrooms and who have the patience to get to the end of the book, waiting to find out how the story will develop in the next chapters.
