Perché “Star Trek-Discovery” è una serie tv da non perdere /Review of tv series “Star Trek-Discovery”

“Star Trek- Discovery” è una serie tv di fantascienza ambientata nell’universo di Star Trek. Si tratta della sesta serie televisiva e le azioni si svolgono circa dieci anni prima gli eventi della prima. Negli Stati Uniti viene trasmessa su CBS, mentre in Italia la trovate su Netflix, dove sono disponibili attualmente le prime due stagioni (la terza dovrebbe uscire tra qualche mese).

La storia ha come protagonista il comandante Michael Burnham (interpretata da Sonequa Martin-Green), che, a dispetto del nome, è una donna umana che ha vissuto su Vulcano, membro dell’equipaggio della USS Shenzhou della Flotta Stellare; dopo un tentativo di ammutinamento per poter attaccare le navi Klingon, Michael dà inavvertitamente inizio ad un conflitto più ampio, che porta a una strage. Condannata all’ergastolo, viene però salvata durante un trasferimento dalla USS Discovery, capitanata dall’affascinante Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs, per intenderci, Lucius Malfoy), dove ritrova come primo ufficiale l’alieno Saru (Doug Jones), con cui aveva avuto dissapori sulla Shenzhou.

La prima stagione racconta lo scontro con i Klingon, permettendo allo spettatore di conoscere meglio i membri della nave e le loro storie personali, mentre la seconda stagione analizza paradossi e avventure del viaggio nel tempo.

Ho trovato questa serie un vero capolavoro: mi è piaciuta a tal punto che ho dovuto far passare un giorno prima di recensirla perché altrimenti non sarei stata in grado di dire altro che non fosse “è fighissima, guardatela, cosa state aspettando?”

I personaggi sono intensi, caratterizzati benissimo grazie alla scelta di un cast davvero valido; oltre a Jason Isaacs, Sonequa Martin-Green fa un lavoro incredibile con la protagonista, ma soprattutto Doug Jones che, interpretando un alieno (quindi sempre senza poter usare la mimica del volto), riesce con il proprio corpo e determinate posture e gesti a conquistare lo spettatore.

La trama è ricca di colpi di scena, grazie ad una sceneggiatura che dosa sapientemente azione e introspezione dei personaggi: tra gli sceneggiatori troviamo infatti anche Akiva Goldsman.

A sforzarsi di trovare qualcosa che non mi è piaciuto, ho trovato il love interest tremendamente sottotono: privo di fascino e senza alcuna chimica con la protagonista, ho trovato più di una volta la sua presenza forzata e fastidiosa, per quanto sulla carta avesse una storia pazzesca.

In conclusione, una serie incredibile, una vera perla da vedere con piacere: lo consiglio a tutti gli appassionati di fantascienza, non solo ai fan storici di Star Trek.

“Star Trek Discovery” is a science fiction TV series set in the Star Trek universe. It is the sixth television series and the actions take place about ten years before the events of the first one. In the United States it’s broadcasted on CBS; the first two seasons are currently available (the third should be released in a few months).

The story stars Commander Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green), who, despite her name, is a human woman who lived on Vulcan, a member of the Starfleet USS Shenzhou crew; after a mutiny attempt to attack Klingon ships, Michael inadvertently starts a wider conflict that leads to a massacre. Sentenced to life imprisonment, however, she is rescued during a transfer from USS Discovery, captained by the charming Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs, aka Lucius Malfoy), where she finds the alien Saru (Doug Jones), with whom she had had disagreements about Shenzhou, as first officer.

The first season shows the clash with the Klingons, allowing the viewer to learn more about the members of the ship and their personal stories, while the second season analyzes paradoxes and adventures of time travel.

I found this series a real masterpiece: I liked it so much that I had to let a day go by before reviewing it because otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to say anything else but “it’s so cool, watch it, what are you waiting for?”.

The characters are intense, characterized very well thanks to the choice of a really good cast; besides Jason Isaacs, Sonequa Martin-Green does an incredible job with the main character, but above all Doug Jones who, playing an alien (so always without being able to use facial mimicry), succeeds with his body and certain postures and gestures to conquer the viewer.

The plot is full of twists and turns, thanks to a screenplay that skillfully devotes action and introspection to the characters: among the writers there’s Akiva Goldsman.

Trying to find something I didn’t like, I found the love interest tremendously undertone: devoid of charm and without any chemistry with the main character, I found his presence forced and annoying more than once, although on paper he had a crazy story.

In conclusion, an incredible series, a real pearl to be watched with pleasure: I recommend it to all science fiction fans, not only historical Star Trek fans.
