“King of Scars” è il primo romanzo di una nuova duologia di Leigh Bardugo, la geniale autrice della Grisha Trilogy e di “Sei di Corvi”.
Il protagonista è il nuovo sovrano Nikolai Lantsov: il mostro in cui l’aveva trasformato il Darkling continua a tormentarlo, presentandosi incontrollabile quando lo Zar si addormenta. Accanto a lui, Zoya Nazyalensky, parte della sua cerchia di comando e che vediamo finalmente come personaggio narrante, cerca di convincerlo a prendere una regina per cementare il suo potere e assicurarsi una discendenza.
Ma quando finalmente Nikolai si è convinto a riunire sotto il tetto del suo palazzo diversi diplomatici per annunciare la sua scelta, la sua ricerca per liberarsi del mostro lo porta in un luogo inaspettato.
Parallelamente Nina Zenik è in missione in Fjerda sotto copertura per salvare i Grisha perseguitati, ma si imbatte in una sinistra scoperta su cui si ritrova a indagare.
Come per i precedenti romanzi, lo stile di Leigh Bardugo è impeccabile: avvincente, a volte ironico a volte profondo, mai noioso.
Ho divorato il libro in meno di un giorno: è stato bellissimo ritrovare i personaggi che più avevo amato della Grisha Trilogy e vedere finalmente dato loro lo spazio che meritano, così come assistere a una nuova avventura di Nina.
Il mondo del Grishaverse viene esplorato ancora di più, e abbiamo l’occasione di vedere un lato inaspettato del popolo di Fjerda.
Anche i personaggi nuovi sono memorabili, in particolare la volitiva Hanne, il cui rapporto con Nina è uno dei gioielli di questo romanzo.
Il finale aperto lascia il lettore a scalpitare per il prossimo volume.
Leggere questo romanzo dà la stessa soddisfazione di trovare una fanfiction perfetta: i personaggi sono quelli che già ami, il mondo è conosciuto e non resta che immergersi nell’azione e godersi il viaggio.
Se avete amato la Grisha Trilogy e vi siete affezionati a Nina Zenik non potete perdere questo libro.

The protagonist is the new ruler Nikolai Lantsov: the monster into which the Darkling had transformed him continues to torment him, appearing uncontrollable when the Tsar falls asleep. Next to him, Zoya Nazyalensky, part of his circle of command and finally a narrating character, tries to convince him to take a queen to cement his power and secure a lineage.
But when Nikolai has finally convinced himself to gather several diplomats under the roof of his palace to announce his choice, his quest to get rid of the monster takes him to an unexpected place.
At the same time, Nina Zenik is on an undercover mission in Fjerda to save the persecuted Grisha, but she comes across a sinister discovery that she finds herself investigating.
As in the previous novels, Leigh Bardugo’s style is impeccable: compelling, sometimes ironic, sometimes profound, never boring.
I devoured the book in less than a day: it was wonderful to find the characters I loved the most in the Grisha Trilogy and see them finally given the space they deserve, as well as witnessing a new adventure by Nina.
The world of Grishaverse is explored even more, and we have the opportunity to see an unexpected side of the people of Fjerda.
The new characters are also memorable, especially the strong-willed Hanne, whose relationship with Nina is one of the jewels of this novel.
The open ending leaves the reader eager for the next volume.
Reading this novel gives the same satisfaction of finding the perfect fanfiction: the characters are the ones you already love, the world is well- known and all you have to do is immerse yourself in the action and enjoy the journey.
If you have loved Grisha Trilogy and you are fond of Nina Zenik, you can’t miss this book.
