Ecco perché non potete perdervi “Le regole del delitto perfetto”/ Review of “How to get away with murder”

“Le regole del delitto perfetto” (o anche chiamato “How to get away with murder” ) è una serie tv americana conclusa, andata in onda dal 2014 al 2020.

In Italia la serie è andata in onda sui canali Fox, su Rai2 e attualmente è disponibile parzialmente su Netflix.

Si tratta di un avvincente thriller giudiziario, creato da Peter Nowalk e prodotto da Shonda Rhimes, famosa per Grey’s Anatomy e Scandal; la serie si svolge infatti “nell’universo di Scandal“, in quanto nella quarta stagione vediamo due episodi crossover. In ogni caso, se non avete mai visto Scandal, questo non deve frenarvi, perché il rimando all’altra serie si conclude in quei due episodi.

La protagonista della storia è Annalise Keating (Viola Davis), una brillante e cinica avvocata, che insegna anche nella prestigiosa Middleton University di Philadelphia, in cui tiene il corso che dà il titolo alla serie. Durante i primi episodi Annalise sceglie i cosiddetti “Keating Five”, cinque studenti che l’assisteranno, con l’ausilio del suo braccio destro Bonnie Winterbottom (Lisa Weil, la Paris di Una mamma per amica) e l’aiutante Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber): Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King), Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee), Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry),  Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza), Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch, Dean di Harry Potter).

I casi che affrontano, tuttavia, si rivelano sempre più legati alla famiglia di Annalise e alla figura di Wes Gibbins, l’ultimo studente a venire scelto per i Keating Five: man mano che la storia va avanti tutti i personaggi si troveranno più o meno coinvolti in un omicidio che dovranno coprire.

Ogni stagione ha una trama principale a sé, ma tutto parte dal caso della prima stagione: attraverso la tecnica del flash forward ogni episodio ci presenta un pezzo del futuro omicidio e delle reazioni dei personaggi nel cercare di coprirlo, risolvere il caso, o farla franca. Più le stagioni vanno avanti, più le bugie e gli intrighi aumentano, fino ad un finale mozzafiato (nella sesta stagione) che concluderà definitivamente le loro vicende.

La serie ha avuto un successo incredibile, a mio giudizio meritatissimo: non so se sia meglio la trama, la regia, il ritmo o le pazzesche performance del cast, in particolar modo di Viola Davis, la protagonista.

C’è poco che si può dire senza fare spoiler, ma la serie affronta diverse tematiche tra cui l’omosessualità, la bisessualità, l’etica, l’amicizia, l’amore, ma soprattutto l’ambizione e la vendetta. Lo stesso genere della serie è difficilmente collocabile tra il giallo, thriller, dramma giudiziario e di intrighi.

Se ancora non lo conoscete, correte ad iniziarlo: per quel che mi riguarda è una serie incredibile da non perdere. Avvertenza necessaria: dà dipendenza.

“How to get away with murder” is an American TV series that aired from 2014 to 2020 on ABC.

It’s an exciting legal thriller, created by Peter Nowalk and produced by Shonda Rhimes, famous for Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal; the series takes place “in the universe of Scandal“, as in the fourth season we see two crossover episodes. In any case, if you’ve never watched Scandal, this shouldn’t stop you, because the reference to the other series ends in those two episodes.

The main character of the story is Annalise Keating (Viola Davis), a brilliant and cynical lawyer, who also teaches at the prestigious Middleton University in Philadelphia, where she teaches a class that gives the series its title. During the first episodes Annalise chooses the so-called “Keating Five”, five students who will assist her, with the help of her right-hand man Bonnie Winterbottom (Lisa Weil, Paris of Gilmore Girls) and helper Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber): Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King), Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee), Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry), Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza), Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch, Dean from Harry Potter).

The cases they face, however, prove to be increasingly linked to Annalise’s family and the figure of Wes Gibbins, the last student to be chosen for the Keating Five: as the story goes on, all the characters will find themselves more or less involved in a murder they have to cover up.

Each season has its own main storyline, but everything starts from the case of the first season: through the flash forward technique each episode presents us with a piece of the future murder and the reactions of the characters in trying to cover it up, solve the case, or get away with it. The more the seasons go on, the more the lies and intrigues increase, until a breathtaking finale (in the sixth season) that will definitively end their story.

The series had an incredible success, in my opinion well deserved: I don’t know if the plot, the direction, the rhythm or the crazy performances of the cast, especially Viola Davis, the protagonist, are better.

There’s little that can be said without making spoilers, but the series deals with different issues including homosexuality, bisexuality, ethics, friendship, love, but above all ambition and revenge. The same genre of the series is difficult to be defined: crime, thriller, judicial and intrigue drama.

If you don’t know it yet, run to start it: in my opinion, it’s an incredible series you can’t miss. Only, I warn you: it’s addictive.
