“The Good Place” è una serie televisiva comedy- fantasy di 4 stagioni, creata da Michael Schur e prodotta dalla NBC.

In Italia è interamente disponibile sulla piattaforma Netflix.

La trama segue le vicende di Eleanor Shellstrop (interpretata da Kristen Bell, diventata famosa per Veronica Mars), che è appena morta dopo essere stata investita da una pila di carrelli mentre raccoglieva una bottiglia di un superalcolico. Eleanor si risveglia nell’aldilà dove Michael (Ted Danson), l’architetto del distretto de “La Parte Buona”, le annuncia che grazie alle sue magnifiche azioni in vita si è meritata un posto tra loro. Nella Parte Buona (una sorta di paradiso), infatti, possono andare solo le persone più degne, che si sono dimostrate altruiste e buone in vita; Eleanor, secondo Michael, grazie al suo impegno umanitario per il prossimo, è un elemento essenziale.

Il problema è che Eleanor non è quella che Michael dice, deve esserci stato un errore poiché la vita per cui la lodano non è assolutamente la sua; la Eleanor protagonista era infatti una donna egoista e cinica che non ha mai fatto nulla per gli altri.

Impossibilitata a dire la verità per non finire nella Parte Cattiva, condannata ad atroci torture per la vita, Eleanor farà del suo meglio per imparare ad essere una persona più buona; la aiuterà Chidi (William Jackson Harper), insegnante di etica e sua anima gemella designata, ma anche i suoi vicini di casa, il monaco Jianyu (Manny Jacinto) e la perfetta Tahani (Jameela Jamil). Nella Parte Buona troverà anche la efficiente Janet (D’Arcy Carden), una entità soprannaturale in grado di aiutare gli umani ed elemento comico geniale.

La serie è una comedy davvero divertente e a tratti surreale, con un umorismo che permette in realtà di trattare tematiche importanti di etica e crescita personale. Complice la lunghezza contenuta di ogni episodio (22 minuti) e un ritmo rapido e incalzante, si presta alla visione-maratona; inoltre, ogni episodio si conclude con un cliffhanger che vi renderà davvero difficile abbandonarla.

La prima stagione è, secondo me, semplicemente geniale e si divora in poco tempo; le due centrali calano leggermente di ritmo, ma la quarta torna brillante e divertente ai livelli della prima; in generale, comunque, tutte le stagioni meritano e regalano momenti di grande divertimento. L’ultima puntata, invece, mi ha commosso e non me lo aspettavo, strappandomi una lacrimuccia a tradimento come solo le comedy sanno fare.

Il cast merita un elogio speciale perché personalmente ho trovato la serie recitata magnificamente, complici dialoghi brillanti e numerosi riferimenti al mondo televisivo.

In conclusione, se state cercando una serie divertente da divorare su Netflix non potete farvela scappare!

“The Good Place” is a 4-season comedy- fantasy television series created by Michael Schur and produced by NBC.

It is entirely available on Netflix. The plot follows the events of Eleanor Shellstrop (played by Kristen Bell, who became famous for Veronica Mars), who has just died after being hit by a pile of carts while picking up a bottle of liquor. Eleanor awakens in the afterlife where Michael (Ted Danson), the district architect of “The Good Place,” announces to her that because of her magnificent actions in life, she has earned a place among them. Only the most worthy people are in fact allowed in the Good Place (that is, heaven), those who have proved themselves selfless and good in life; Eleanor, according to Michael, thanks to her humanitarian work, is absolutely deserving of her place.

The problem is that Eleanor is not the person Michael says, because, due to some mistake,the life they praise her for is not hers at all; the real Eleanor was selfish and cynical and she never did anything for the others.

Unable to tell the truth, lest she end up in the Bad Place, condemned to atrocious torture for life, Eleanor will do her best to learn to be a better person; she will be helped by Chidi (William Jackson Harper), an ethics teacher and her designated soulmate, but also by her neighbours, the monk Jianyu (Manny Jacinto) and the perfect Tahani (Jameela Jamil). In the Good Part she’ll also find the efficient Janet (D’Arcy Carden), a supernatural entity capable of helping humans and a brilliant comic element.

The series is a really funny, sometimes surreal comedy, with a humour that actually allows to deal with important issues of ethics and personal growth. Thanks to the short length of each episode (22 minutes) and a fast and pressing pace, it’s perfect for binge-watching; moreover, each episode ends with a cliffhanger that will make it really hard to leave.

The first season is, in my opinion, simply brilliant and can be devoured in a short time; the two middle ones drop slightly in pace, but the fourth returns to the brilliant and fun levels of the first; in general, however, all seasons are good and have moments of great fun. The last episode, however, got me very emotional and I did not expect it, making me shed a tear as only comedies can do.

The cast deserves special praise because I personally found the series beautifully acted, with brilliant dialogue and numerous references to the world of television.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a funny series to binge on Netflix you can’t miss it!
