“Murder Mystery Machine” è un gioco d’investigazione disponibile su molte piattaforme, tra cui Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, ma anche giocabile da PC con Steam e da Iphone (e Ipad e portatili) tramite Apple Arcade.
Nel gioco si impersona la neo diplomata all’Accademia di polizia Cassandra Clarke che viene inviata nell’ufficio investigativo con lo scontroso Nate Huston; la giovane si troverà a indagare su omicidi che dapprima sembrano scollegati, ma che poi andranno a comporre un complesso caso di corruzione, lotte di potere e intrighi politici.
Il gameplay è molto intuitivo per quanto riguarda dialoghi e raccolta prove, un po’ macchinoso per i collegamenti tra le ipotesi; il problema principale è che è un po’ rigido nelle scelte e a volte il giocatore si trova bloccato, ma una volta capito il funzionamento il gioco regala una trama davvero ben fatta.
I casi sono ben strutturati e non banali, tessere di un mosaico che porta ad una trama più ampia e avvincente: confesso che ho terminato la prima stagione (al momento l’unica disponibile) in due giorni e ne avrei voluto ancora di più. La trama investigativa era divertente, la possibilità di personalizzazione nelle scelte presente e soddisfacente, i personaggi delineati e a tutto tondo; in sostanza, ho avuto la sensazione di leggere un bel thriller di cui aspetto il seguito.
In conclusione, un’app insolita, a tratti più simile ad un libro che ad un gioco, divertente e, con qualche miglioramento nel gameplay, un prodotto davvero bellissimo.

In the game, you can impersonate recent police academy graduate Cassandra Clarke who is sent to the detective bureau with the grumpy Nate Huston; the young woman will find herself investigating murders that at first seem unconnected, but then go on to make up a complex case of corruption, power struggles and political intrigue.
The gameplay is very intuitive in terms of dialogue and evidence gathering, a bit cumbersome in terms of linking hypotheses; the main problem is that it is a bit rigid in its choices and sometimes the player gets stuck, but once the game gets the hang of it, it delivers a really well-done storyline.
The cases are well-structured and non-trivial, tiles in a mosaic leading to a larger and more compelling storyline.I confess that I finished the first season (currently the only one available) in two days and would have liked more. The investigative plot was entertaining, the possibility of customization in choices present and satisfying, the characters delineated and well-rounded; in essence, I felt I was reading a good thriller whose sequel I await.
In conclusion, an unusual app, at times more like a book than a game, entertaining and, with some improvements in gameplay, a truly beautiful product.
